Battery recycling
Find out more about our battery recycling service.
Recycling your old, portable batteries is easy.
We collect used portable batteries from homes across Aldershot and Farnborough. The batteries are sorted into different types and then recycled.
The scheme has been really successful and we have collected several tonnes of batteries since the scheme was launched.
How to recycle your batteries
- We delivered a pack of three clear battery recycling bags to homes in late June/ early July 2012 to get people started. Once you have used your bags, please use any clear bag, such as a food bag, to recycle your batteries
- Put your used batteries into one of the bags and keep it somewhere safe
- Once the bag is full, seal it and put it on the lid of your blue bin on collection day. Please do not put it inside your bin. To check your collection day, please use our In my area feature
Batteries you can recycle
We can accept most portable batteries including:
- AAA, AA, C, D & button cells
- Laptop batteries
- Mobile phone batteries
We cannot accept car batteries (or similar). These can be exchanged when you buy a new one.
You can also take batteries to your local household waste recycling centre.
Storing your batteries safely
- Keep your batteries somewhere clean, dry and out of direct sunlight
- Never store damaged or leaking batteries
- To reduce the risk of short circuiting, cover the contacts on lithium and button cell batteries with sticky tape and remove any trailing wires
