Benefits for our staff

We offer a selection of benefits for our staff.

Learning and development

Our learning and development programme is an essential part of our organisational development. We know that if we are to be sustainable, we need to enable everyone working for us to develop knowledge and skills to help us achieve that.

All staff have an annual development review. The many learning opportunities offered include those targeted at developing staff to meet the changing demands of the organisation, our residents and local businesses, as well as the job-related training we all need.

Pension scheme

We offer membership of the Hampshire Local Government Pension Scheme. This is a defined benefit occupational pension scheme. More information is available on the Hampshire Pension Services website.

Hours of work / flextime

The normal working week for most full-time staff is 37 hours, Monday to Friday.

Actual times of work may vary depending on the needs of the role, but we also offer a flextime system, which allows staff in many roles to flex their actual working hours to suit, as long as sufficient cover is maintained.

The flextime system allows staff to work additional hours between 7.30am and 7pm (6.30pm on Fridays) and to take up to one day's flexible leave in each calendar month.

Flexible working

We can accommodate a range of flexible working patterns, depending on the needs of the role, to help staff balance personal needs with their career and in achieving a healthy work/life balance.

Annual leave

Full-time staff are entitled to 23 days' annual leave, rising to 28 days after five years' continuous service in local government.

This rises again after ten years' service with us to 30 days, and 33 days after 20 years' service with us.

Payment of professional fees

If you need a professional qualification as part of your job, we will pay your professional membership fees.

Parking facilities

Free parking is available for staff next to our offices or nearby in the Pinehurst car park.

We offer a range of activities and benefits to staff to improve their health and wellbeing. These include:

  • 24/7 access to an employee assistance programme, including an online health portal, confidential telephone service and access to face-to face counselling
  • Lunchtime yoga sessions
