About designation orders

These are areas where restrictions on public drinking and dog behaviour apply.

Designated public places orders (DPPO)

The Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 allows us to restrict public drinking in certain places. These powers help the police deal with problems of anti-social drinking in public spaces.

The DPPO makes it an offence to drink alcohol after the police request you to stop. The police have the power to require you to hand over the alcohol and any opened or sealed containers. If you fail to do so, they can arrest you.
