Oberursel

Oberursel lies near to the modern city of Frankfurt and has been Rushmoor's German twin town since 1989.

Why Rushmoor is linked with Oberursel

In the late 1980s, Rushmoor and Oberursel were both looking for twin town partners and found each other through a twin town matching service in 1989. The towns are similar in size and have similar small industrial units and service industries. Also both towns were near to major airports with good road and rail networks.

Rushmoor's community links with Oberursel

History

The town's origins date back to over 1200 years but it is the 15th century buildings in the old town centre that give the town its medieval character. The charming old timber-framed buildings have been restored and are in everyday use.

Modern Oberursel

The modern parts of Oberursel sit alongside the old town and provide a picturesque backdrop to a busy, contemporary town. The Taunus mountains are just a few miles away and are a very popular spot for rambling, hiking and skiing in the winter.

The city of Frankfurt is a 20-minute rail or road journey from Oberursel and many Oberursel residents commute to Frankfurt for work.

Oberursel is a town of tradition and progress and has a very active social, sporting and club life, with a very wide range of leisure activities to suit all tastes.
