Festive bin collection changes

Rushmoor Borough Council is advising residents of changes to their rubbish and recycling collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period.

Collections run as normal until Christmas Eve and then the timetable changes as follows:

  • Monday 25 December - revised to Wednesday 27 December
  • Tuesday 26 December - revised to Thursday 28 December
  • Wednesday 27 December - revised to Friday 29 December
  • Thursday 28 December - revised to Saturday 30 December
  • Friday 29 December - revised to Tuesday 2 January
  • Monday 1 January - revised to Wednesday 3 January
  • Tuesday 2 January - revised to Thursday 4 January
  • Wednesday 3 January - revised to Friday 5 January
  • Thursday 4 January - revised to Saturday 6 January
  • Friday 5 January - revised to Monday 8 January

The week beginning Monday 8 January, all collections will be a day later than usual. Collections return to normal the following week.

If in doubt, all the dates are listed on the recycling calendar bin hangers delivered to homes throughout Rushmoor in November. Residents can also check and download a copy of their collection calendar on the council's bin collections web page.

The council will once again be collecting real Christmas trees for composting this year, between 9 and 19 January. Residents should put their tree out for collection on their normal rubbish collection day only (on the opposite week to recycling) by 7am with all decorations removed. Large trees (five feet and over) should be cut in half.

Christmas cards can be recycled provided they do not have foil or glitter on them. Metal biscuit tins can also be recycled in the blue bin. However, wrapping paper and plastic sweet tubs should be put in the general rubbish bin

Residents are also advised to make sure that all glass bottles and jars are put in their blue boxes rather than in their blue bins. Anyone who does not have a blue box should ring customer services on 01252 398 399 to get one.

Full details of what can and cannot be recycled are available on the council's Rubbish and recycling web pages.

Councillor Martin Tennant, Rushmoor Borough Council's Cabinet member for Environment and Service Delivery, said: "The calendars that were delivered to homes in November have all these revised dates on, but we will be publicising these dates on social media too to make sure residents are reminded.

"If anyone is in doubt about what can be recycled over Christmas I would advise them to take a look at the relevant pages on our website or to contact us on 01252 398 399 outside of the bank holidays and weekends."
