Countdown to Christmas in Farnborough

The second Farnborough Frost Fair is the highlight of a month-long celebration of Christmas in the town's shopping centres.

Under the banner of 'Countdown to Christmas', events will be taking place from mid-November in Princes Mead, Queensmead and The Meads in a programme of festive activities designed to bring shoppers and their families into the town and to keep them entertained.

The Farnborough Frost Fair, which brought thousands of shoppers into town last year, will return to Queensmead on Saturday 25 November between 10am and 4.30pm. Visitors will get the chance to browse and shop at 45 unique handmade gift and delicious local food stalls, and enjoy live music from local schools. Children can visit the Little Dallas Donkeys and the Little Magic Ponies, try their hand at circus skills with Juggling Jake and take part in free Christmas craft activities. There will also be street performers and children's rides in Queensmead. The frost fair is being organised by Rushmoor Borough Council and managed by Fuse Projects.

Another highlight will be a Christmas Fun Day in Queensmead on Saturday 9 December between 10am and 4pm, with special appearances from a Dr Who and the Daleks tribute! There will also be an inflatable assault course, bouncy castle and rodeo reindeer throughout the day in an event organised by Rushmoor Borough Council.

The season of events begins with a bang on 18 November when Farnborough's very own X-Factor super stars Reggie 'n' Bollie will be switching on the Christmas lights in The Meads and entertaining shoppers with their high-energy performances. The afternoon of free, family fun and activities starts at midday when visitors will also be able to watch local dance troupe Spotlite Dance perform and enjoy some festive tunes from Cactus Brass.

This busy day also features a Parity for Disability craft fayre in Princes Mead, together with Star Wars characters and the chance to win VIP tickets to The Last Jedi at  the Vue cinema on 14 December.

On Saturday 2 December, between 10am and 4pm, families will be invited to take part in the Magical Elf Trail, organised by Rushmoor Borough Council. throughout Queensmead, Princes Mead and The Meads. Entrants have to pick up a trail from one of the elves outside Claire's Accessories and see if they can find the hidden elves in shops windows. All children will win a small prize on completing the trail and will be entered into a prize draw for Princes Hall's 'Aladdin' pantomime tickets.

Also featuring in the run-up to Christmas in Farnborough are:

  • Princes Mead Christmas lights switch on with Father Christmas and special guest, a rock choir and Princes Hall panto cast members - Saturday 25 November
  • Christmas craft fayre in Queensmead - Saturday 16 December
  • Christmas carols with a brass band - Saturday 16 December from midday to 2pm.

Princes Mead will be offering a free Santa's grotto from Sunday 26 November through to Saturday 23 December.

Details of all the events will be available in a special programme.

Councillor Ken Muschamp, Rushmoor Borough Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Business, Safety and Regulation, said: "This is the second time we have brought together a programme of Christmas activities in the three shopping centres and we think there is something for everyone in the programme. The Farnborough Frost Fair was a big success last year and we hope that residents and visitors will enjoy it just as much this year. 

"Our aim is to provide some festive entertainment for the whole family while people are in town to make Christmas shopping an even more enjoyable experience."

Free festive parking will be available in all town centre council car parks (excluding Union Street West and Union Street East close to Farnborough station) and some privately-operated ones, including The Meads, in Farnborough on Sunday 3, 10 and 17 December.

A range of town centre events are also scheduled for Aldershot.
